After their fine victory in the capital against YB, Servette travel this weekend to Heerenschürli to face FCZ. Another big AWSL clash awaits.
Servette are riding an exceptional wave of momentum at the start of this season: three wins in three league matches, one win in the Swiss Cup, and currently top of the AWSL standings thanks to a better goal difference than GC. Cristian Toro’s players are cruising in these early weeks and show no signs of slowing down!
After Lucerne, St. Gallen, and YB, the Garnet will now take on FCZ this Saturday at 4 p.m. at Heerenschürli! A clash between two teams that have dominated Swiss women’s football in recent years. Having shared titles back and forth for several seasons, both sides fell short of expectations last year. Now, a new season is underway, and both are determined to reclaim the top of Swiss football. At this early stage, Servette hold the advantage with their perfect league start. Zürich, currently 4th, are off to a flatter run with one win, one draw, and a loss in the Limmat derby against GC.
In their last encounter, Servette put on a show, beating FCZ 4–0 at Letzigrund. That said, Zürich are always dangerous, as shown by their 2–1 victory at Trois-Chêne in the first clash of the 2024–25 season. And even if trips to Zurich have often favored Servette, complacency would be a mistake. Self-control, solidity, and composure will be the key words for this fourth league matchday.
400 Matches for Cristian Toro!
Having arrived this summer from Valencia to replace Jose Barcala, Cristian Toro reached his 400th match in women’s football as a head coach last weekend against YB! Toro began his career at the start of 2011 with Valencia CF, where he stayed for 7 seasons, coaching 203 official matches. He then moved on to Sevilla, where he spent 6 seasons and oversaw 172 games. At the end of 2024, Toro briefly returned to Valencia, managing the first team 21 times before joining Geneva and Servette FCCF, with whom he has now coached 4 matches—his 400th coming in Bern against YB.
