This Saturday, the leaders of the AWSL travel to Zürich to face Rapperswil at 6 p.m. It will be the Garnet team’s third match in the space of a week.
It’s hard to talk about anything other than the brilliant form of the Servette players at the start of this season. Solid, efficient, and focused, Cristian Toro’s side have won their first five league matches, scoring 15 goals and conceding only one — against Aarau this Wednesday. The team intends to maintain that form this Saturday as they head to Rapperswil.
The Zürich side, currently 8th in the standings after five rounds, have had a more difficult start to the season with only 3 points — earned against FC Basel on Matchday 2, thanks to a 2–0 victory and a brace from Alicia Bailey, who caused plenty of trouble for the Basel defense. A fine performance, though it contrasts with the four defeats suffered against GC, Lucerne, St. Gallen, and most recently YB. There’s no doubt that at home, Rappi will be looking to pull off another upset against one of the Swiss league’s top teams.
Servette, meanwhile, can count on their defensive solidity and attacking efficiency — as well as the spectacular form of Therese Simonsson, who has scored 7 goals in the league this season.
