BSC YB Women – Servette FCCF: Clash in the Capital

After an excellent start to the season, Servette’s women will face the reigning Swiss champions this Sunday at 2 p.m.

Three matches, three victories, 18 goals scored and only 1 conceded. That’s Servette’s record at the start of this season—a record that can be called outstanding. The Genevans have been a real steamroller so far, winning their matches with complete control from start to finish. Now, a new challenge awaits them, and not just any challenge: the reigning champions!

YB’s start to the season has been less impressive than that of SFCCF. In the league: two matches, two draws—against St. Gallen (1–1) and Zürich (0–0). As defending Swiss champions, the Bernese will begin their Swiss Cup campaign in the round of 32. In the meantime, they also began their European journey, with mixed results so far. In the first qualifying round for the UWCL, the yellow-and-blacks started with a 1–0 victory over Apollon Ladies before losing their final to Fortuna Hjørring. That defeat still secured them a spot in Q2 of the new European competition, the UEFA Women’s Europa Cups.

In this clash of titans, Servette enter with a psychological advantage based on their early-season results. YB, however, will be without two of their former stars—Imaan Beney and Naomi Luyet, who both left during the summer—as well as last season’s league top scorer, Stéphanie Waeber, who recently suffered a torn ACL in her left knee during training. Everyone at Servette FCCF wishes her a speedy recovery.

Despite these “advantages” for Servette, YB are hungry for wins and will be eager to finally kick off their season with a strong performance!

So, mark your calendars: Sunday, September 14 at 2 p.m. at the Spitalacker in Bern—the first women’s football matchday on Bernese soil!
