After being held to a draw away at Rapperswil, the Garnets host FC Thun this Saturday at 3 p.m. at Les Trois-Chêne.
A fine winning streak came to an end last Saturday in St. Gallen against Rapperswil. After five wins in their first five league matches, Servette’s women were unable to make the most of their numerous chances. In truth, nothing dramatic — the Genevans dominated from start to finish against a solid and courageous St. Gallen side that did what it had to do to avoid defeat. A slightly frustrating draw, but one that keeps the players grounded: no victory is won before the match is played.
It’s with that mindset that the team will need to approach Saturday’s encounter with Thun, currently bottom of the table. After six AWSL matches, the Bernese side have suffered six defeats and sit in last place. Cristian Toro’s players will, of course, be the favourites — especially at home at Les Trois-Chêne. Nevertheless, Thun will be eager to kickstart their season on Saturday, and for that, they could well take inspiration from… Rapperswil. Naturally.
Despite Thun’s poor form, Servette must, as always, remain focused at all times. Over the past few years — and even more so this season — the team has earned the status of being “the one to beat.” And if Rapperswil managed to slow Servette’s momentum, Thun may hope to do the same. It will be up to the Garnets to crush that hope as quickly as possible.
Pink October
As every year, October will take on the colour pink to raise awareness, mobilize support, and contribute to the fight against breast cancer. To support this cause, Servette FCCF players will wear a pink hair tie (“chouchou”) during the match. The Garnet staff will also wear the traditional pink ribbon on their gear. In addition, match tickets will include a 2-franc supplement — the entire amount will be donated to an association supporting the cause.
