Servette FCCF – FC Aarau Frauen 4–1 (2–0)

Servette FCCF keep marching forward with a fifth win in as many matches. Cristian Toro’s players defeated FC Aarau Frauen 4–1.

Servette came into this fifth match of the season still unbeaten. With 11 goals scored and none conceded, they boasted both the best attack and best defense in the league. On top of that, the Genevans had already beaten St. Gallen, YB, and Zürich—three of this season’s title contenders. A strong start and a clear message to the rest of the league: SFCCF are back this season.

On Wednesday evening, Cristian Toro’s side hosted FC Aarau Frauen at the Stade des Trois-Chêne. The Swiss-German side are still searching for their first win of the season, with just a single point from their first four games. Aarau have been one of the surprise packages in recent seasons, snatching wins here and there against much bigger sides in the league. Olivier Häusermann’s players are never to be underestimated.

Servette understood that message well! Wave after wave of attacks poured down on the goal of the excellent Lorena Barth, and inevitably, the goalkeeper could not stop everything. Paula Serrano (11’) and then Magdalena Sobal (25’) found the back of the net after fine team moves. The Polish striker, starting in place of Gloria Marinelli, seized the opportunity to prove her worth. With SFCCF playing three matches in one week, squad rotation is key to keeping the team’s competitive level high.

In the second half, the Garnet hammered home their dominance thanks to a brace from Therese Simonsson (66’, 86’). The scoreline could have been even heavier without Barth’s countless saves. The only blemish: SFCCF conceded their first goal of the season, after a poor clearance from Enith Salon gifted Aarau their consolation. Final score: 4–1 for SFCCF, strengthening their position as league leaders and the team in top form at the moment.

With this latest victory, Servette FCCF can prepare for their away trip to Rapperswil this Saturday at 6 p.m. with no added pressure. The Genevans will then return home to the Stade des Trois-Chêne on October 4 to face Thun at 3 p.m.
