DINAMO-BSUPC – SERVETTE FCCF 0-3 (0-0)

The Grenat kick off their European campaign in style.

The Servettiennes did not quite know what to expect when they faced the reigning champions of Belarus. What kind of opposition would they encounter? What were their opponents’ strengths and weaknesses? And where did Cristian Toro’s players stand in terms of their preparation and the integration of the new signings?

These questions were answered fairly quickly during the match. Yes, the Grenat were superior to their opponents and had what it took to progress. However, it took some time for the breakthrough to come. Despite dominating throughout, having a penalty appeal for Garance Nein go unawarded and creating several excellent chances, the score remained 0-0 at half-time. The statistics at the break nevertheless told the story: 9 shots for Servette compared with 0 for the Belarusians, with possession at 67% to 33%.

The Geneva side adopted the right strategy: there was no need to panic, but rather to keep putting pressure on their opponents. The goals eventually came in quick succession, with Garance Nein opening the scoring in the 53rd minute — her first professional goal — before two new signings added to the tally: Laura Strik made it 0-2 in the 57th minute, followed by Paola Hernandez for 0-3 in the 60th.

Three goals in seven minutes settled the contest and secured Servette’s place in the final.

The final step of this journey in Kazakhstan will take place this Friday, August 7, against either Breidablik or Aktobe, with the kick-off time yet to be confirmed. Should the Servettiennes win the final, they will compete in a two-legged play-off for a place in the prestigious UEFA Women’s Champions League league phase.
